Cirque du Soleil – Totem

I’ve never seen a Cirque du Soleil show before but always wanted to. Our plan was to see a show in Las Vegas whilst we were there. But due to the time zone change, I really struggled to keep awake past 9pm (and kept waking up at 4am) so we decided it would be a waste of money if we didn’t enjoy it as we were so tired or worse still, fell asleep during a show (and also a bit embarrassing too!

But when I saw that Cirque du Soleil were doing a show in London called Totem, I got very excited. As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts about our chocolate tasting experience at Hotel Chocolat, we decided we would get each other experience gifts or tickets for Christmas this year. So I immediately knew what I was going to buy for my husband for Christmas.

Totem follows the journey of the evolution of mankind. Although I think the story isn’t that apparent, there are parts which clearly show the different creatures which are key figures in the evolution story as we know it. It didn’t matter that the story wasn’t robust, the costumes and make-up are amazing and the characters are easy to depict. From the very first scene, I was enthralled.

The scenes are made up by a series of different acrobatic talents, incorporating music and dancing. It keeps pace really well and wows the audience through the different scenes.

We had great seats, just a couple of rows from the front, which allowed us to take in the close-up views of the costumes, make-up and even the concentration on the talented cast’s faces.

My favourite part was right before the end and involved some trampolinists and some very bendy wood.

This was possibly the best show I had ever seen and I’m so glad we got tickets. I’d urge you to go and see Totem if you can, but if you miss the limited running on this show, there’s plenty of other Cirque du Soleil shows to take in around the world. We will definitely go to see another Cirque du Soleil show again – it was well worth it.

Our tickets cost £89.75 each and they were absolutely worth every penny!

  1. I saw Ovo in Sheffield UK. They were brilliant, very entertaining and some unexpected bits. As good as I was expecting and love how they integrate the music into their performances.

  2. I saw a show with them and Kris Angel while we were in Vegas several years ago and was blown away. Can’t wait to get another opportunity to see just them, I’m sure its fantastic #anythinggoes

  3. I have seen one Cirque du Soleil show and it was amazing! Those acrobats are so flexible, it almost seems impossible. I would love to go back and see another one sometime.
