8 Ways To Get Your Kids Outside
This is a collaborative post
As parents, we all know that kids should lead an active life. If nothing else, it’s essential for their muscle tone.
But our children often have other ideas. Most are creatures of the home, spending all their time inside on their devices.
For parents, all this can feel a little exasperating. You know that your children should be running around, but you just can’t find a way for them to shift their butts.

Don’t worry: this post can help. Take a look at some of our ideas for getting your children to go outside below.
Take Them To A New Area Of Town Every Weekend
One way to get kids to go outside more often is to instil an explorer’s spirit in them. You want to show them that there’s more to their local area than meets the eye. Give them a taste of all the green spaces, parks and adventure playgrounds in the local area and just let them have fun. They’ll soon get the hang of it.
Make Mud Pies
Kids love making mud pies. And, secretly, adults do, too.
Of course, you don’t have to use real mud to have fun. Sand in the sandbox will suffice. Just get involved with your kids, encouraging them to play, and then leave them to it once they are fully engaging with what they are doing.
Give Them A Bug Catching Jar

Another idea is to give them a jar and tell them to go out into the garden to catch bugs. A bug-catching jar is a great way to keep them outside for a while and learn something new. Many kids simply don’t know how many creepy crawlies live in their garden and call it home.
Create A Scavenger Hunt
Another option is to create your own scavenger hunt. Leave clues and treats around the garden and then tell your kids there is a prize at the end. Then watch how quickly they put down their phones, jump out of their seats, and start looking. It’s incredible.
Park Some Distance From The School Gates
You don’t have to chauffeur your children right up to the school gates to be a good parent. It may actually be better to park further away so that your kids can walk further on their way to school. Parking up to a mile away can be great exercise.
Set A Screen Time Timers
Another less popular strategy is to set a screen time timer. This limits the amount of time your children can spend on their screens per day, and the time they have to spend doing other things.
Send Them On Trips
These days, primary school trips go all over the world. They’re a great way to get kids out of the house and outside for extended periods. Children are outside far more often and much more likely to learn new things about the world.

Get Out Yourself
Lastly, the more you get outside, the more your child will copy you. If you live an outdoor lifestyle, so will your kid.
