The Secret Garden – Afternoon Tea, Kent
Located down in Mersham-le-Hatch near Ashford, I’ve been to the Secret Garden many times, but mainly for afternoon tea. The location of the restaurant is in a little business estate with a couple of other places and there’s plenty of parking. The design of the restaurant is very pretty with great attention to detail. The hot drinks are unlimited and the afternoon tea is plentiful. The current afternoon tea offering includes a selection of finger sandwiches on white and brown bread, with fillings such as chicken, spring onion and lemon mayonnaise or cucumber and mint cream cheese. They serve these and a cheese straw on chintzy crockery, accompanied with the traditional scones, jam and cream and a selection of seasonal sweet treats. The traditional afternoon tea at The Secret Garden is priced at £29.95 per person. They also offer a chocolate afternoon tea and a savoury version for those who fancy something a bit different. It’s a lovely spot for afternoon tea in Kent.
Chilston Park – Afternoon Tea, Kent
We took my sister for an afternoon tea at Chilston Park just before my niece was born. Chilston Park is a hotel located in Sandway, just by Lenham and is in the heart of the countryside. The grounds of the hotel are impressive and I would imagine it is very beautiful on a sunny day. Unfortunately, every time I’ve been there it’s been either rainy or overcast. Oh well, an excuse to go again perhaps? At Chilston Park, you take your afternoon tea in the Marble Lounge. All the teas served are loose leaf and the team there are very attentive, making sure you are well-lubricated with drinks. The afternoon tea at Chilston Park is very traditional, consisting of sandwiches, scones and delicious cakes. Afternoon tea at Chilston Park costs £29 per person.
Rowhill Grange – Afternoon Tea, Kent
I’ve not been to Rowhill Grange for an afternoon tea but I know a lot of people who have and they rave about the experience. It’s on my list of places to try out this year. You take your afternoon tea in one of the lounges there, or in the restaurant. It’s also an option if it’s a nice day to take your Rowhill Grange afternoon tea outside on their terrace. This looks particularly nice from the pictures I’ve seen. Again the menu is quite traditional, with a selection of open and closed finger sandwiches, scones and a selection of pastries and cakes. Afternoon tea at Rowhill Grange starts at £30 per person and prices go up a little at the weekend.
Oad Street – Afternoon Tea, Kent
Located over in Borden, Oad Street has attracted a lot of attention due to their igloo style pods which you can book. They offer afternoon tea in the igloos but you can also enjoy your afternoon tea in their restaruant. Prices in their restaurant start at £25 per person with their igloos costing from £32.95 to enjoy afternoon tea. Their menu includes yummy finger sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and homemade cakes. All washed down with unlimited tea. If you are taking children aged 11 or under, you can order them a Teddy Bear’s Picnic, which is a mini afternoon tea tailored especially for children. In my opinion an igloo with the Teddy’s Bear’s Picnic is one of the best kids’ afternoon tea in Kent. An igloo is also one of the more unusual places for afternoon tea in Kent – it’s definitely photo-worthy as well as being a lovely experience.
Hempstead House – Afternoon Tea, Kent
Another venue for afternoon tea in Kent is Hempstead House, located in Bapchild, near Sittingbourne, Hempstead House is another great venue for afternoon tea in Kent. The afternoon tea is served in the restaurant, which is fitted out with an impressive chandelier in the middle of the room. The table was laid with crisp white linen when we went and the tea was served on cake stands between either two or three people. We often for the savoury afternoon tea on our visit, which consisted of sandwiches, a cheese scone, a scotch egg, sausage rolls, cheese twists and then just a single tier of a small cake each. It was perfect for anyone who has more of a savoury tooth, than a sweet one. The hot drinks are unlimited and the team were really attentive, keeping us in tea the whole way through. Afternoon tea costs from £23.50 per person.
Eastwell Manor – Afternoon Tea, Kent
This is where I had my little baby shower. Eastwell Manor is one of the Champneys properties located in Ashford. Eastwell Manor offers a variety of choices, alongside its classic offering, including one with Pimms or a sparkling cocktail. Afternoon tea at Eastwell Manor is served in the restaurant, lounge, drawing room, or if the weather is nice, outside on the garden terrace. The afternoon tea consists of finger sandwiches, warm scones, cakes and a wide selection of teas. Prices start from £30 per person, with the champagne option at £42 per person.
